Treehouse Landmark

I rented a treehouse on SL at this group over here. I've never owned a home there before. Putting square furniture in a round house is a lot like putting a square peg in a round hole. Frustrating. And for some reason I can't sit down on any of the furniture. I can sit down on them if I open them in a sandbox, but if I open them in the treehouse, no luck. Weird. I'm also having trouble getting in and out of the door. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. But I'm learning new things and having fun.

About the Bling

There is one pair of heels I am fond of wearing on Second Life because I like the way they look. It puzzled me when people would randomly comment that they loved the bling on my shoes. I didn't see anything sparkly about them. So today it came up again and it dawned on me that my resolution was too low. So I tried to raise it and then I saw the sparkles. So Yay! But then when I clicked on 'apply', and looked at the club I was in, a lot of body parts went missing and hair was floating around. Yikes! So I put it back on the low setting. What good is it to see your shoes sparkle if you have no legs? Strange. If you click on the photo so you can see her foot, you'll see the 'no blng' version that I see.

Last night on Second Life I randomly found this great rainbow dress in one spot and this cool waterfall in another, so I took a bunch of photos. Of course the frozen view of the waterfall isn't nearly as exciting. I used a belly dance animation override (AO) that I also got for free to do the poses. Click on the photos for more detail.

Helping a Newbie

On Friday night I tried to teach a friend to use Second Life. Boy was that an epic fail. I spent an hour and a half and couldn't even get him dressed. I'd forgotten how tough it was. Then I was trying to explain the age verification process because he wanted to access adult areas, and he couldn't comprehend that at all. I finally went to bed with both of us extremely frustrated. He didn't even know how to walk. Somehow he skipped Information Island altogether.

Working on SL

It seems that almost daily on SL I have some guy tell me he now has a partner and doesn't want me anymore. Or they go out of their way to point out they have others they spend time with. I know that on a subconcious level, but I don't need my face rubbed in it. I assume they knew people before I got there and they'll meet new people each day.

Oh and the club I applied to dance in just shut down for a few months, so it's back to the drawing board.Today I planned to stay off of SL to prove to myself that I'm not addicted to it, but it's only 1 PM and I find myself seriously jonsing for it

On a good note, I won 50L in a contest for burlesque yesterday.

Yay I'm Back

A of last Monday, I'm finally back on Second Life. I ended up buying my own memory, which was only $40. I thought it was going to be $150, or I would have done it 6 months ago. I got my new avatar situated with a decent skin and body. I've used my old avatars as well. I've been able to find some of my old favorite haunts, and I've made a few new friends. But the first 3 days were pure frustration as I tried to relearn the game after a two year break.

After waiting so long to get back inworld, my biggest fear is that I want to play 24/7.

Real or Imaginary

I just ordered some business cards for my Second Life alt. While that seems a bit insane, even to me, a tutorial I saw about running a Second Life business says it's better for tax reasons to keep everything under one name. So if you know me on SL and plan to meet me in real life, I thought a business card would make the transition from fantasy to reality a smoother one. Plus it's so darn cool. It's a trance card for hypnosis, a little 'freebie' induction to take home and focus on in the wee hours of the morning. And Vista Print had such a good deal, I'm getting two sided business cards in color with a spiral on them, for hypnosis of course, as well as a self-inking stamp with my name and address, all for under $25.00. I can't wait to get my new cards in the mail. Woot!

If only my computer memory would get here so I could actually PLAY Second Life.

Still Stuck on Welcome Island

I've been able to log into all 8 of my Second Life personas. It's so fun to see them all again. I can get SL to load and if I'm lucky I can stare at my person for about 10 minutes before everything freezes up. I am chomping at the bit to get the new memory card added to my computer. I hope the guy who ordered it tells me the minute it gets there. I've already lined up a whole bunch of hypnosis friends to join me on SL once I can get my new alt off of welcome island.

Almost Back

I got the 'new' used computer set up. He warned me it might be sluggish on SL until the memory he ordered gets installed. Well, he was right. My new avatar is on Welcome Island, and I can see it, walk a few steps, turn this way and that, and that's about it.

I logged into some of my old alts, and I was able to hear music and fly a bit. So far I haven't seen any other people. I'm not sure if I just don't have enough memory for them to show up, or if I'm in deserted locations. A lot of the landscaping is fuzzy. At least I have a computer again and can do other Internet things like blogging and checking email. In fact everything except run memory hogs like Second Life. It was so weird seeing my friend's list for the first time in 2 years. Some of the names I recognize. Most I do not. I can't wait until I can play a full on scenario. At least one of my names still has almost 1000 lindens.

I ran into two computer geeks in a chatroom, and they think I can get back on S.L. if I just spend about $100 on more memory. It seems this old computer I got stuck w/ barely has enough memory to wipe it's own *harddrive. But in the real world fixing my truck took all my cash this month. Sooooo...who knows when I'll be able to buy more memory.

I'm working on making a black avatar. So now I'm finding out how when you build your avatar using only free stuff, it's nearly impossible to find a decent African avatar for free. Sooooo, I'm going to have to spend about $800L on a skin/shape combo and another $200L on proper hair. I think I have $600L saved up. This is just my way of saying not all females have to be white super model Barbie avatars. I just wanted to mix things up a bit and reflect real life more.

All because I got upset when I showed some jerk my real photo and he went from all cozy and interested in me to all 'I can't get away from you fast enough' on me. Welcome to the land of the shallow.

Gondola Ride

I had a wonderful time on Second Life last night. The night ended with a romantic gondola ride down a canal at midnight with lights and flowering trees all around. I won't be able to do Second Life again until the middle of next week and I'm missing it already.
I wish I knew how to link you all to the best places I've seen on SL. Surely there is a way to do it, but I don't see how to copy the URL.

There are two SL last names I've seen in the game but not on the list so I got curious about it. They are Valentine and Archer. I am guessing they are retired because they got used up.

Last night I experienced a nasty bit of cyber bullying on Second Life that kind of put the kibosh on the whole thing for me. I kind of dread going onto there now. I hope I recover but at this point I just don't know. I suddenly got ejected from a group of people I thought were my friends without an rational explanation and just a few snarky IMs after I asked them if they had hit the wrong button by mistake.

Don't get me wrong. My experiences on SL were 99% good. Hopefully I'll recover from the few bad apples.

Today I learned how to make chatroom gestures thanks to some tutorials on youtube.com. That is a lot of fun and gives my writing muscles some practice. Now if I could just make some .wav files they can have sound too. Someone reccommended Audacity so I'm going to look for that tomorrow.

Gypsy Wagon

Yes, boys and girls it's almost 4 AM and I just turned off 2nd life. I can't keep going like this. But the good news is I found the house I want to buy. Actually it's a gypsy wagon and I'm looking for some pagan friendly lands to put it on, and maybe put a treehouse next to it. I want a foresty place, but unfortunately some pagan friendly lands are filled with ugly skull castles and psychedelic floating balls. I just want a forest, some meadows and nothing with gaudy flashing lights. And now I'm going to bed to dream about my gypsy wagon.

Not Just a Game, An Obsession

I was asking a friend for some help with Paint Shop Pro 9 and just as an aside during the long download, he said he and his wife had been playing an online game called Second Life. So while I was waiting for the download, I thought I'd check out the game. I needed another online activity like I needed a hole in the head but you know how it goes.

I already play Pirates Online but I'm always annoyed that it's so G rated and heavily policed. You can't give people your email address so they can stay in touch or anything. Well, Second Life is just the opposite. You can be as puritanical or raunchy as you want. It's a huge interactive game with people creating landscapes, buildings, houses, clothing, carnival rides, and about everything and anything you can dream up. It's so fascinating I've been playing for 4 days sleep with barely time to eat or work. Well, I can't keep that up forever. I plan to reign in my enthusiasm any minute.

The scary thing is there is a free version, or a paid one. And in the paid one I can see people have spent a lot of money. Real money on an imaginary land. You can buy virtual land and then rent it to others for cash. Or for what the game calls Linden Dollars.

I can see this usurping my life if I'm not careful. But at the moment I can't seem to tear myself a way from it.
